• Alnet gefur auk þess út hugbúnaðinn Tölvuorðabókina og leiðréttingahugbúnaðinn Málfar, sem nýlega komu út í nýrri útgáfu.
• Alnet leggur áherslu á virka orðasöfnun og verða orðabækurnar stærri með
  hverju árinu sem líður.
• Nú eru um 155.000 uppflettiorð í orðabókunum og munu fara yfir 200.000 á

Alnet is developing translation software which will be capable of translating whole sentences and entire documents from Icelandic into English. The program will return syntactically correct translations, instead of merely automating word-to-word dictionary lookups.
The program will be designed for the Windows operating system. The user interface should integrate seamlessly with common work processes and tools so that it can be as practical as possible for translation jobs.

No translation software is currently available on the Icelandic market, but it's clear that Icelanders frequently interact with other countries and they have to translate a lot of material from Icelandic into English for the promotion of their products and services.

The program is mainly intended for companies. The aim is to distribute it on a massive scale at a price that most buyers can afford, instead of targeting only professional translators.

The main objectives of this project are:
1) To increase the user's productivity by speeding up the translation process.
2) To enable the user to turn in translations of better quality than ever.
3) To enable more people to communicate in decent English.
Pioneering the way, Alnet published the first electronic dictionary in Iceland in 1993. The translation software project will build on that technology and leverage the Icelandic-English and English-Icelandic dictionaries owned by the company. Through the years, a great deal of grammatical details have been added to the databases, which will certainly further the artificial intelligence aspect of the translation program.

The company has been approved for financial support from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and from Rannis (The Icelandic Centre for Research) for this project.
Alnet operates the website http://www.ordabok.is which offers access to an extensive English-Icelandic and Icelandic-English web-based dictionary as a subscription service. An ever-growing number of individuals, companies, schools and state agencies are relying on this excellent service for their Icelandic-English and English-Icelandic language needs.
